Celine Dion

Celine Dion Conquers the World With Song and Scent

Her songs are beloved the world over. She has a voice that is instantly recognizable as it is unforgettable. In the 1990’s her powerful ballads centring on love, life and longing became the soundtrack to a generation. Today she is making waves as a successful entrepreneur in the world of fashion. Her trademark perfume exudes elegant sophistication, much like the diva herself.

Celine Dion was born on March 30 1968 in Charlemange, Quebec, Canada. She was the youngest of 14 children. Her family was poor but her childhood was a happy one by her own accounts. Music was a part of her life from the beginning, as she spent much of her time singing with her siblings in her parent’s small piano bar. At the tender age of 12 she composed her first song with the help of her mother and brother Jacques. The song was called “Ce n’etait qu’un reve” (“It Was Only a Dream“). Her brother Michel sent the recording to a local producer by the name of Rene Angelil, who was destined not only to become Dion’s manager, but her husband. Angelil was so moved by the prodigal 12 year old’s haunting tones that he mortgaged his house in order to finance her first album. This extraordinary faith bore fruit almost immediately- the album became a huge hit locally and her career snowballed from there. International recognition soon followed when she won several international singing competitions including the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. In 1990 she released her first English language album, entitled “Unison”. It won strong critical acclaim and helped to forge a relationship with American audiences, a relationship that would grow ever stronger. Throughout the 90’s she had numerous worldwide hits including “the Power of Love” (1993), “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” “because You Loved Me” (1996) and her signature song, “My Heart Will Go On” (1997) from the movie “Titanic”. Today she has sold over 200 million albums, making her one of the most successful recording artists of all time.

Celine Dion has diversified into many different fields. She has long been active in various charities; she has been the public face of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF)since 1982. She is also a successful entrepreneur, having established the restaurant franchise “Nikels” in 1990, and a line of perfume and beauty products.

Her perfumes include Celine, Celine Dion Notes, and Celine Dion Always Belong”. In 2003 her perfumes were amongst the top ten in the world. Always Belong, currently her most popular, is described as combing “uplifting notes of mimosa, fresh violets and crisp amber to capture Celine’s irresistible energy for life”. Overall the fragrance line favour subtle, feminine blends suitable for all occasions.

Celine Dion continues to add to her fragrance line as it continually grows in prominence. With aromas as distinctive as her pop chart hits, Celine Dion has truly cemented her place as a global cultural icon.
